What Is Full Truckload (FTL) Freight?

A full truckload shipment fills an entire truck with freight, such as pallet-stacked goods, oversized equipment, or bulk products laid out in rows. Freight that is light in weight but large in volume may also qualify as a full truckload.

Full truckload shipping differs from partial truckload or less-than-truckload (LTL) services because the entire truck is dedicated to a single shipment. Load rates are often calculated by the truck’s capacity rather than cargo weight. FTL loads reduce handling, save on costs, and cut delivery times.
